Here are a few pictures of failures in my turbo Scirocco. The first 2 picture are from the first blown trans after turbo charging. I was roughly 75 miles from home and luckily broke in front of a gas station. So while I waited a hour for the tow truck, I downed a 6 pack. That was one hell of a day. As you can see, the cross bar the spiders rode on was completely severed into three pieces. Made a very large hole in the bell housing.
This is the Dif out of an AGB trans. It was number 5 on my death list. The case is being welded up in preparation for my new Quaife LSD. The funky "bell" rivet failed on this trans breaking out a small section into the clutch housing. Thank you VW for such a lovely piece of engineering!
This input shaft was number 4 failure. I grabbed second way too hard..... That was one sick sound. Stripped all the teeth off of second gear on the input shaft and most off of the gear on the output shaft. This has happened twice, both times with 8v trans. I have decided to stick with the bigger input shaft trans, they seem to hold up better.
This is my new Quaife LSD differential. Only took two days to show up. Can't wait to get it installed and try it out. I hope I have fixed all the weak points on tranny number 7. These things weigh a ton too. It easily weighs more than the stock/w ring gear unit even with out the ring gear on the Quaife.
